The Geography of Japan
The Geography of Japan influenced the society immensely. Japan is located in eastern Asia. It is considerably smaller than most of the countries surrounding it. The fact that it is small makes travelling around Japan much easier than if it were a big island. This came in very useful when Iemitsu, the third shogun, introduced alternate attendance. It would also be very easy for people living in Japan to access food and water; the coastline is always quite close, even if they are in the middle of Japan. Secondly, Japan is isolated from other countries. This makes it harder for other countries to invade and it makes it easier for Japan to defend the country if any other countries decide to attack.
